Buying beef for the freezer is a great idea for the price conscious consumer. Buying in bulk saves hundreds of dollars a year as well as provides a great deal of convenience to grab beef out of the freezer for a quick meal for the busy family.
You have the option to buy a quarter (half of a half), half or whole beef. You will pay for the beef and also pay the locker for the processing.
Once you decide how much beef you would like, Lincoln Township Farm Company will make your locker appointment. Once the beef is delivered to the locker, you will call the locker to put in your cutting order. (Currently using the locker in Janesville, Iowa)
Current prices are below are for the beef. The Hanging Weights are averages and can vary at least 50 pounds either way. Cost at the locker varies upon your cutting order but will be roughly $200 per quarter.
Current price is $2.70 per pound of hanging weight.
What is Live weight, hanging weight and processed weight? Live weight is how much the steer or heifer weighs when it leaves the farm and is ready for butchering. Hanging weight is how much the carcass of this animal weighs before the butcher starts processing and processed weight is how much your beef will weigh approximately when you pick it up.
